The call to participate in the cross-border voyage of the training ship Saltillo for students of UPV/EHU and the University of Bordeaux is now open! Send us your application before the 7th of June, 2022.
This summer course will consist of a five-day voyage on board the training ship Saltillo where you will be able to enjoy the Basque coast and acquire knowledge about the ocean and sailing through different training activities. Check the program: HERE.
The crew will be diverse and multilingual, which will make this course an even more enriching adventure. You will share this experience with other students from the UPV/EHU and the University of Bordeaux, from different disciplines, as well as with a team of 6 students from the Nautical School and the captain of the boat.
Come and enjoy the summer surrounded by the sea, learning to sail on a vintage boat and with the best company: students like you who want to live intrepid experiences!
With the students selected in this call, two crews will be formed. The first one will enjoy the experience from July 11 to 16 and will sail from Santurtzi (Bizkaia, Euskadi) to Saint-Jean-de-Luz (Lapurdi-Iparralde), and the second one from July 16 to 20 and will sail from Saint-Jean-de-Luz to Santurtzi.
During the five days you can enjoy the best activities on board the boat Saltillo!
You will develop in an active and collaborative way general knowledge and skills on seamanship, maneuvers in port, hoisting, lowering and sailing on a vintage ship, and you will learn the tasks of surveillance, positioning and safety during navigation. You will also be able to enjoy lectures and visits on land where you will learn about different representative areas of the scientific, educational and dissemination work carried out by the UPV/EHU in relation to the sea (lectures, visits…). In addition, on board the ship Saltillo, you will have the opportunity to record your aboard diary in a multimodal logbook (text, photographs, videos, audios…) that will record your experience and can be followed from land by your friends, family, and many more…
All this will be free of charge for the people selected in the call! You will receive a certificate of UPV/EHU Summer Courses.
